Two Simple Steps To Improve Search Rank

Of the various SEO techniques, I have learned that two are the most prominent. So what have I learned? Perhaps too much to tell, but to condense what I have learned, there are two basic techniques to growing back links to your website to grow the site’s page rank on Google. The first phase is to find and secure organic back links with anchor text from the billions of sites that are in the world. The second method is to create your very own sites that you control and place your back links onto those sites that link back to your own. Both methods can be performed legitimately, or through less scrupulous methods, but combining both methods together is a great way to propel your site’s ranking to the top.

The first method is pretty straight forward and self explanatory, so let us instead focus on how to use the second approach. The second method is what I want to talk about because we are talking about establishing good page rank links back to your website from other websites that you manage. What are the steps to get started? I have developed the list below to help get you started:

1) You would be surprised how high social networks rank. Strangely enough, pageflakes and not so weirdly facebook rank very well on search engines as does Linked In links. Use online social networks to establish some authoritative links back to your site as well as increase your online footprint.

2) Take a look at Hub Pages, Squidoo, and even Tumblr: Use these sites to get some basic and relative back links. These sites rank relatively well and by using them, you can get a great deal of authority with very little effort.

3) For more advanced web surfers, there is always the option of creating a directory or forum. There is a lot of software available in the open source area that you may use to develop unique websites that focus to your area of specialization or your region. Create them and sponsor them from your home page with anchor links.

4) Blogging tools. I understand that blogging takes a commitment, but as a Google product, Blogger has a very high page rank; which means any links from a blogger site will have a high weight. Develop numerous blogs, (don’t link them together) and add back links with anchor text to your focus website. Recruit guest bloggers or pay per article ghost writers to create content. There are software programs out there that will actually scrape content from other sites, but these will get you banned from blogger. Unique original and legitimate content is best.

By taking this approach, you can increase your online presence and increase traffic to your site. Use the free blogging and website tools that are available online to create links and drive traffic to your website. I know that time is valuable and what I have reviewed above may initially take a lot of time, but the real estate market is becoming extremely cutthroat and your success may ultimately rely on how many people can find you online.

Understanding SEO and SEM For Marketing Success

Sometimes there is a great deal of confusion between search engine optimization and search engine marketing. Although these online marketing techniques are quite different from one another, they share a number of similarities.

Search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing are similar in many ways. Each online marketing discipline requires a strong understanding of purpose and functionality. The practice of SEO requires a basic knowledge of search engines and how they work at their core. Search engine marketing requires an understanding of online marketing and advertising.

From the outside, both internet marketing methods appear to be very complex. The truth however, is that SEO and SEM are simple to understand. Implementation of best practices is what makes success such a challenge. Search engine optimization is essentially the techniques you use to rank well on major search engines is a direct result of your understanding and application of proven techniques in the area of SEO.

Search engine marketing is based on an understanding of online ad campaigns that are implemented on advertising networks. The largest online ad network is Google followed by Yahoo! and MSN. These ad networks basically work the same way. You open an ad account, place an online ad, and when users search for terms related to your ad, the advertisement displays. When someone clicks on your ad, you pay a fee.

Search engine optimization is different from search engine marketing in many ways. SEO is defined as the organic result that shows up in search engine results pages after a user generates a query. Techniques associated with SEO are broken down into on-page optimization and off page-optimization. These techniques have their own nuances but are independent of one another.

The purpose of SEO is to generate natural traffic to your website. After a browser completes a search on Google or other major search engine, the resulting list is based on each search engines algorithm. When users click on these results you do not pay. Organic search is usually referred to as natural or free traffic.

SEM is different than search engine optimization for one fundamental reason. With SEM, you pay when someone takes an action. Unlike traditional advertising you do not pay for your advertisement to appear, only when someone clicks on your ad. Your cost varies based on how competitive your keywords are and where you want your ad to display.

Doing business online requires a firm knowledge of both search engine optimization as well as search engine marketing Both internet marketing disciplines can support your online success. If you are not currently comfortable with SEO or SEM, begin with some simple research, explore SEO and SEM products, or subscribe to an RSS feed. Doing so can improve your knowledge and expertise in both of these areas.

A Word About Video And Audio Blogs

Blogs are revolutionizing the way businesses interact with their customers. To elevate blogs to the next level, you may want to embed video in your business blog. Audio Video is becoming increasingly in demand online. If you heard of YouTube, you know the impact of video online. Why not take advantage of this revolution? You can make your blog more entertaining when you include video. You may provide short clips about using your products, or you could make short presentations about your services.

Don’t confuse video blogs with online commercials, because the two are not at all the same. Video blogs are not supposed to be shameless plugs or infomercials. When you offer video in your blog you are providing valuable information in a different form. Instead of entertainment, think value. That, of course, doesn’t mean that your video should be boring. On the contrary, the more exciting you make it the more buzz it will generate. Webinars are quite common tools that would benefit your blog.

We won’t go into the details of how to get your videos on your blog, but it is easier than you think. Don’t worry if you don’t have video equipment worth millions of dollars. Most digital video recorders are more sophisticated to day than much of the video equipment professionals have used in the past.

One of the most important aspect of video to remember is that it is using much more bandwidth than text. Be sure you check with your hosting company to make sure there is enough bandwidth for you to embed video in your blog. As video is becoming ever more popular, video hosting providers have made it very easy for the end user to add video content to their blogs.

Most popular video sharing sites such as YouTube, Google Video, etc will auto-generate code that you can cut and paste into your blog post. The most widely implemented blog backend providers such as TypePad and WordPress, have both a WYSIWYG and an HTML tab for writing and editing posts. This functionality is very similar to what many people are used to seeing in popular web-page building programs like Adobe’s Dreamweaver. Most blogging software allows you to paste the video embeded code into the HTML tab of your post.

Is Twitter Suitable For Business

twitter SEOIn one of our previous posts we mentioned how top 100 fortune companies are using social media in their online marketing strategy . Today we will talk about the benefits of twitter as a part of your internet marketing campaign.

The Twitter site has created a lot of buzz so far and has made it the place to be for celebrities and businesses. It seems like creating a twitter campaign is the right thing to do and Twitter is the place to be. For businesses, it is an attractive platform where the potential for success is available. Twitter is large group of friends and strangers all across different parts of the world creating updates about what they are doing. It means that no matter where you are, people near or far can use Twitter to reach anyone near or far. As Twitter users tend to access the site from all sorts of platforms, from their mobile phones or though the various remote-access applications like Tweetdeck, the estimated big numbers of users on Twitter are likely to be even bigger in reality.

In order to use Twitter effectively you should follow the right people and to join in on the right conversations. For example, you don’t want to follow someone who tweets about things that are irrelevant to you such as what they are watching on TV. One thing to consider is that people won’t want to follow you if you are not sharing valuable information. You can also follow your competition on Twitter to see what services they offer.

Some of the benefits of using twitter with your business:

1. Marketing – twitter provides a link with your an audience. When you release a blog post or a product or service you can announce it on twitter. The people that visit your link may opt-in to your newsletter first before buying your product but it’s a good way to promote something. Just don’t just promote on twitter. Many people really hate that. Keep your mix of helpful articles, fun and promotion.
2. Idea generating – You can brainstorm ideas on twitter by asking for ideas. Your audience knows what it wants you can simply ask them and deliver it to them.
3. Support – if you have a technical or genralised issue, let people know on twitter. It creates an understanding from your followers and awareness of any ongoing issues.
4. Recruit – In case you need someone to help you with something ask your followers on twitter and you’ll get recommendations.
5. Knowledge network – if you follow other people on twitter in your field of expertise you have a huge resource. A virtual knowledge network to ask questions and help others. Some people you help may become your customers in the future. And you’ll learn which makes you even better at what you do.
6. Networking – business is done by networking. Much of my business is because someone referred me. Networking is key and twitter allows you to do virtual networking easily.
7. Feedback – You can get feed back from your follows on your tweets or service.
8. Brand – twitter is just another way to expand your brand. If you don’t do it someone else will. I’ve seen many Bob Proctor copy cats on twitter in the last week or two. I hope the real Bob was one of the first.

Without a doubt Twitter provides some scope for businesses and many social media companies are using twitter for campaigns. Some say that twitter is not for everyone based on recent studies and the data on twitter suggests that only certain type of businesses can benefit from twitter significantly. Research shows that over half of Twitter’s outbound traffic is to content driven sites. Studies indicate that less than 10% of outbound Twitter traffic is to transactional sites like retail. It is important to do adequete research to implement the right seo strategy so that you dont waste valuable time.

Are Search Engine Robots Useful?

Search engine ’spiders’ are robots that seek out webpages to display in search engines. Below we’ll discuss how they work and why they’re important.

Robots actually have the same basic functionality that earlier browsers had. Just like these early browsers, search engine robots do not have the ability to do certain things. Robots cannot get past password protected areas. They do not understand frames, Flash movies, nor Images or JavaScript. Even if you use a robot, you have to click the buttons on your website. They can cease to function while using JavaScript navigation or when indexing a dynamically generated URL. A search engine robot retrieves data and finds information and links on the web.

The robot makes a list of the web pages in the system at the ’submit a URL page, then searches for these web pages in order from the list the next time it goes on the web. Sometimes a robot will find your page whether you have submitted it or not because other site links may lead the robot to your site. Building your link popularity and getting links from other topical sites back to your site is important. The first thing a robot does when it arrives is to check for a robots.txt file. This file tells the robots which sites are off-limits. Usually these are files that should be of no concern because they are binaries or other files that are not needed by the robot.

Submitting a new URL to a search engine adds this URL to the queue which the spiders are due to ‘crawl’ or visit. However, even if a URL isn’t submitted directly, the spiders usually find it through links from other websites. If you build link popularity, this will help the spiders find you faster. When the robots arrive, they’ll check your site for a file called ‘robots.txt,’ which will tell them what areas of the website they are not allowed to visit. Off-limits files may include things like binaries or other information that the spiders need not report back.

To ensure that searchers get the right results with the most relevant response to their query, quick calculations are done to see that this happens. Server logs and log statistics program results can be checked by the user to see what pages have been visited and how often. Some robots may be easy to identify such as Google’s ‘Googlebot’, while less well-known ones such as Inktomi’s ‘Slurp’ are not easily identifiable. Some robots even appear to be human-powered browsers.

A robot ‘reads’ your site by collecting data on any visible text, on tags you may have in the coding of your page, and on any links available. These are the things that determine what the search engines ‘think’ your content is about, so these are the things you really need to pay attention to when building a site that you want to have high visibility in search results.

If you’re interested in seeing which pages the spiders have visited on your website, you can check your server logs or the results from your log statistics. From this information you’ll know which spiders have visited, where they went, when they came, and which pages they crawl most often. Some are easy to identify, such as Google’s ‘Googlebot,’ while others are harder: ‘Slurp’ from Inktomi, for example. In addition to identifying which spiders visit, you can also find if any spiders are draining your bandwidth so that you can block them from your site. The internet has plenty of information on identifying these bad bots. There are also certain things can prevent good spiders from crawling your site, such as the site being down or huge amounts of traffic. This can prevent your site from being re-indexed, though most spiders will eventually come by again to try re-accessing the page.

No Follow Links

A no follow link is an HTML attribute that is usually giving commands to search engines that the hyperlink is not to influence the ranking of the search engines index. A no follow link is designed to decrease the effectiveness of search engine spam and improve the overall quality of the search engines results.

This concept was designed by Google in 2005 in order to remove the spam that can possibly get through to the search results while searching with keywords in the search engines. This do not block the web content but avoid the data to be indexed by search engines.

The code rel=?nofollow?, when used in the syntax can block spam or sway the links that targets page rank. Though it was designed and the copyright is owned by google, other search engines like Yahoo, Windows Live Search, and Bing also started using this concept

It does not mean that the search engines do not follow the links. They do follow, but they merely not index them in the database. The link can be clicked, and the page will be loaded without blocking any contents. This is just used to reduce the spam being displayed in the search result. In Google search, it is taken exactly. The link will not even be followed. There are some disagreements to this in the SEO report. According to the report, Google follows the link but does not index it. Yahoo will follow the link but do not include in the ranking calculations. MSN search neither counts it nor follows it. Every search engine creates has their own difference of what a no follow link should mean.

Major Weblogs as a routine of submitting links with no follow attribute. There will not be any options to change it as well. Some programs though gives trusted users the options to change. And others may allow the writer to submit the way they write it and later remove the unwanted links to be manually removed.

The no follow link protects web owners from unwanted content on their site. Many web owners will begin a blog to encourage new content to be displayed on their page and enlarge the overall page rank of the site. The sites page rank can be dropped dramatically if offensive are left on the site so the no follow link allows the bloggers to leave links but protects the webpage owners from taking hits to their page rankings as of them.

The no follow links is used as a machine readable disclosure for the links that have paid for the services by Google. Whether the No Follow link is safeguarding or hurting the web owners is still a dilemma and the owners are pondering over it as many pages are paying for links to be traded. The no follow link is constantly under contradiction by SEO and it totally depends on the web owner to allow or reject them in their site.

What Is Meant By A Meta Tag

A Meta Tag is a HTML tag that is used to store the metadata about the webpage it is place on. The information that is placed in the Meta will not be processed by the browser. It does not change the appearance of the page for the visiting people unless the viewer is viewing the source code of the page.

A Meta Tag can contain either a description or a keyword. A Meta Tag that contains a meta description describe the contents of the website and provides information about what the website contains. For example, a webpage that deals with drug rehab might have a Meta Tag that contains a description such as “details about drug rehabilitation.” On the other hand, a Meta Tag that contains a keyword identify the terms that are picked up by search engines to help users find the content you offer. Using the same webpage example regarding drug rehab, a keyword Meta Tag may be “rehab”, “drug rehab”, “alcohol”, “abuse”, “rehabilition”, “addiction help”, etc. Search engines can identify these keywords and associate them with your webpage and display your page as a potential site when they perform a search with one of your keywords.

The Two type of tags are located in the heading of the HTML code on your page usually in this manner:

The main goal of the meta tags are to allow the web crawlers to learn about the purpose of the page. When the search engine is instructed to find a specific page related to a keyword the making the likelihood of your webpage.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization dictates that you create keywords that are specific to your site and that the meta tags you create in your heading be found on the webpage as well. So, using a inappropriate web like “flower box or “dog treat” will not end up in appropriate result.

Some web crawlers ignore meta keywords tags and meta description tags such as larger search engines like Google and Yahoo. These web crawlers will search the content of your site instead of meta keywords.

The mind for this is because of the fact that so many people were using highly searched keywords in their meta tag descriptions and meta tag keywords that had nothing to do with their spot. For this sanity it is important to have the keywords that you are tiresome to promote from your spot on the webpage the epoch. You have to have creature written content that is informative, clear and related to your page theme for the search engines to think you for their top results.

Backlink Basics

Building link popularity is based strongly on the amount of backlinks your website has. Backlinks are needed to increase your page rank within the search engines. Your page cannot be indexed and searched by the search engines without backlinks. If you want your web page suggested to users by the search engines Backlinks will be needed.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a huge part of a websites success. The search engines use the sites rankings to judge its popularity. The more popular the website the more important the search engines will see it as. Search engines use various methods to rank a website. Backlinks are one of the most important aspects search engines look at when ranking the site.

When another website places a link to your page on theirs it is considered a backlink. The amount of backlinks your website has will determine its popularity and importance. A backlink is nothing more than another website placing a link to your website on their own website that directs traffic to you when the link is clicked. One backlink is considered one vote for your site, the more backlinks you can get the better you rise to the top of the search results.

Google uses a PR number to rate your sites popularity, the higher the number the better. To get your PR number increased you must start accumulating backlinks to your website. Other search engines may not find the backlinks as significant but they are still used to measure the importance of your web page. Your site will need high quality content as well as good incoming links in order to rank good.

Google updates its page rankings about once every three months. During this update there are millions of pages that have just been created and start out with a PR0 rating. If you are checking your incoming links and notice a page that has a PR0 that is linked to your page, look at the homepage. Sometimes the sub pages are ne creations but the index page will have a high PR ranking already.

Google will also make a newly created website wait for three to four months before assigning them a PR. This gives new web owners time to gather backlinks and create the right anchor text for their sites and to establish the right anchor text for their web pages. If you have backlinks they have to be on subject your site. The best type of backlinks to have on your site are one way links.

To avoid undesired or irrelevant traffic avoid having backlinks that do not closely match your sites topic. You must be cautious not to mess around with backlink neighborhoods in the so called bad neighborhood. If you are linked to a a site with a bad reputation it can ruin your SEO rankings. Linking to sites that are on the bad list will get you penalized but you will not be punished for any sites that link to you.

Backlinks will bring traffic to your webpage. You want to ensure that the traffic is desirable and relevant to what your site offers. If you can find sites that have a high PR to link to your site it will improve your chances or getting noticed as well as allow the search engines to see your website as more important and popular.

Tips To Enhance WordPress Search Engine Optimisation

Wordpress out of the box allows standard management of the fundamental SEO meta data. To expand the functionality we add our own super-charged version of the All-In-One-SEO Pack. The SEO pack makes it simple to change the page title and page meta description.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack is a great WordPress plugin that finishes off the SEO aspects for WordPress. For some reason WordPress still has not got the SEO fixed out of the box.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack provides for you to change the most important page components – page title and page description. It also allows you to change the page keywords, but as we all know, search engines no longer take note of these because they have been spammed too much in the past. Google finished using the keywords for page ranking in the early 2000’s.

Page Title HTML tags

This is the No1 SEO element to control. Always make sure that you manipulate the page title. The page title appears in the browser window at the very top of the screen. Search engines use this in the listings and display it in their search results.

) between the words.

The page title is the MOST significant SEO page element because it is like the title of a book. And just like a book title, if it is good it will be more appealing to readers.

If your page needs to extend to cover 2 or 3 keywords we have found that you can still get good rankings from adding multiple keywords to the title. But do remember that the closer the page title is to the keyword you want to rank for the better.

If you are a larger branded company you will likely want to add your company or brand name into the page title considering this is exposed on Google. Keep it short and simple though. Do not add your brand statement just your brand or company name.

Page Descriptions Meta Tags

This element is NOT used by search engines for ranking purposes. Nevertheless, virtually all search engines will employ this in their search results so it is important. Google does not use the description all the time but we find that it uses it about 80-90% of the time. The rest of the time it will pick up the first piece of text on the page.

By having a good description it will increase your click through rates because the text will be more magnetic to people. Ensure that you use a maximum of 156 characters. If you use any more characters Google will truncate the rest. If you can keep your descriptions to–0 characters or less this is even better seeing Google sometimes adds a date to the opening of the description which is part of the 156 characters it displays.

Changing the meta data and page title

At the bottom of every page and post you will find the meta tags plugin details. Update the details appropriately. Note: If you can only use see the title for the plugin and no details, just click the title and the section will expand.
